How to Get Rid of Computer Viruses

Computer viruses are truly a curse. Viruses are programs that infect your electronic devices and begin to hinder much of the normal functioning of your device. If all of a sudden your computer becomes extra slow or begins showing unnecessary popups while you browse, a virus has infected your computer. Make sure to keep your computers protected from viruses and be prepared to remove them if need be.

Once you have detected a virus, do not delay removing it. Follow these steps and get rid of computer viruses from possible damage.

  1. Enable the Safe Mode

First of all, you need to turn your computer off and turn it on again. When something appears on your screen, repeatedly press the F8 key which will open up the Advanced Boot Options menu. Here, select the Safe Mode with Networking and press Enter. You need to keep your computer disconnected from the internet.

  1. Delete your temporary files

In Safe Mode, now use the Disk Cleanup tool and delete all the temporary files. This way your virus scanning will speed up and the virus may even be removed if it was to start when your computer booted up.

  1. Install a virus scanner

The two types of virus scanners that can detect and delete viruses are the real-time and on-demand scanners. The real-time scanner runs in the background while you use your computer. The on-demand scanner, on the other hand, would have to be run manually when you want to scan your computer. Both scanners might be needed to remove the virus. Download the scanner if you haven’t already.

  1. Run a virus scan

Some viruses cannot be removed automatically. You would need to do it manually. If you know how to delete system and program files, you can do it yourself. If you don’t, do seek the aid of a professional who specializes in virus removal.

  1. Reinstall the damaged files

Now, files that have been damaged by the virus need to be reinstalled.

  1. Improve your defenses

Now to make sure viruses do not again infect your computer, update your antivirus software.

Do not forget to keep your antivirus software updated if you want to be able to remove viruses and protect your PC. Do not delay deleting the viruses if you have detected them in your computer. Follow the above mentioned steps and keep your computer safe and secure.
