The Apprentice Quarters, available to class attendees and visiting herbalists, is located at the downstairs floor of the Studio. It contains four bunk beds, each renting for $25 per night. There is NO charge for those out-of-town participants attending Apprentice Wednesday.

The fourth sheep wagon was hand crafted in Boise, Idaho for the Mavens' Haven, and has been set up as a rental. The other three are occupied by From the Forest Senior Apprentices at the Haven. The Haven is located at Lucile (seven miles from Riggins, Idaho) along the Salmon River. This is the perfect get-away for a peaceful off the grid rental. (Nasturtium Officinale) Watercress is a super food. It is bursting with Vitamins A, C and K. It contains more calcium than milk and more iron than spinach. The benefit of using watercress tincture as opposed to taking vitamin and mineral supplements is that the natural herb also contains the right amount of trace minerals such as magnesium and potassium that aid your body in absorbing nutrients.
Teasel (Dipsacus fullonum) Freshly dug and cleaned for use in teas, tinctures, salves and other herbal formulations. Cautions: Over consumption of the root can lead to sleeplessness. Constituents: Theine (caffeine), tannin, gallotannic acid, boheic acid, volatile oil, aqueous extract, protein wax, resin, ash and theophylline.
5 lbs. freshly dug Arrowleaf Balsamroot (Balsamorhiza sagittata). Arrowleaf Balsamroot usually grows in large stands on hillsides. It has long, basal, silvery-green leaves shaped like arrowheads. Early spring blooming sunflowers are bright yellow and extend past the leaves on long stems. The root of Arrowleaf Balsamroot can be quite large--weighing up to 30 pounds. When broken or bruised, the massive, bark-covered root exudes a sticky, fragrant sap.
1 oz. (Oenothera hookeri). Zones 3 - 7. Perennial. Evening primrose is a native of North America and was introduced into European botanical gardens in 1614 from Virginia. It is a biennial plant. In the wild seed germinates in the spring and in the first year the plant forms a rosette of leaves that is flat to the ground, later forming a stalk with alternate leaves. The plant flowers during its second year. Approximately 5,750 seeds.
1 oz. (Lomatium dissectum). Zone 4 - 8. Perennial. The most robust of the desert parsley. This fern-leafed variety is highly variable and has a wide range. It grows as much as four feet tall, making it the tallest of the Lomatium. The leaves, mostly basal, are large and divided into many segments. The multiple umbels develop on a long, leafless stalk, with early spring flowers that vary in color from deep purple (nearly black) to pale yellow. It most frequently grows in rocky habitats, particularly on talus slopes. It is often found growing among Arrowleaf Balsamroot. Approximately 2,375 seeds.
1 oz. (Saponaria officinalis). Zones 3 - 7. Often called Bouncing Bet. Prefers full sun in well drained soil. Grows 24 – 32 inches tall and bears dense clusters of pale pint 1” flowers. Modern herbalists use the root to relieve itching (externally) and for jaundice and rheumatism (internally). Approximately 15,000 seeds.

Becky has enjoyed the outdoors and gardening her whole life. She first came to a class on Salvaging Plants From Ravaged Regions at From The Forest 4 years ago and has been hooked ever since. Darcy Williamson has been a great source of knowledge and inspiration in Becky's pursuit of knowledge which has led her to pursue classes from the Northwest Herbal Conference each year and take classes from many Herbalists and Naturalists including Michael Moore, Hobbs, Tierre, Richo Cech, Sharon Twilinger, Rosemary Gladstar and many others. She is an avid hiker/gatherer and grows many medicinal plants at her home with her husband and grandchildren.
