Description

Trillium ovatum. I can offer this root for a short period of time. It was harvested from a private property site where several large “spec” houses were being built. The contractor knew of my reputation for “recycling” medicinal plants and contacted me before digging the foundations. I also was able to “recycle” several large clumps of Spotted Coral Root.

Trillium is used for bleeding and hemorrhage, plus excessive blood flow or blood loss. It is often recommended by some midwifes during the later part of the third trimester, as it reduces the chance of hemorrhage.

Commonly known as Western Wake Robin, Pacific Trillium, or Western White Trillium. It is a member of the Trilliaceae family. It occurs in parts of the western United States and western Canada, usually in rich forest. In the northern part of its range, which includes southern British Columbia, extreme southwestern Alberta, Washington, Oregon and east to Montana, Wyoming and northern Colorado, it often grows under Douglas-fir. Other trees which frequently shade this Trillium include grand fir, western red cedar, and western hemlock; bigleaf maple, red alder and Sitka spruce join in near the coast.

Constituents: Trilline (saponin), tannin, resin, fixed oil.

Gynecological aid – Tincture of Trillium is used in facilitating labor during child birth as well as stopping bleeding after child birth. Use ½ dropper in ½ cup of warm water, every 30 minutes. A half dropper of the tinctured root is an excellent anti-spasmodic when used in the treatment of menstrual cramps.

Menopause – Trillium’s steroidal saponins have hormonal effect on the body regulating the imbalances in this system. These compounds are sometimes called natural precursors of female sex hormones, thus they are capable of eliminating some problems in this field, such as hot flashes, flushing and other symptoms caused by extreme hormone fluctuation. Other female conditions treated include excessive menstruation during the beginning of menopause and metrorrhagia (uterus bleeding). Blood loss via the urinary tract has also been prevented with Trillium.
